Tourism South East's Hampshire tourism conference took place on Thursday 15 April 2010 at Paultons Park near Romsey, Hampshire.
The conference included presentations from innovative tourism businesses, interviews and a chance to question industry specialists and representatives as well as a lively panel discussion with top tourism businesses including 2009 Tourism ExSEllence award winners; facilitated by the Editor of the Southern Daily Echo, Ian Murray.
Tourism South East and industry experts joined together during British Tourism Week at the Best of Britain & Ireland (BoBI) show which took place from 17 - 20 March at London Olympia and saw a 5% increase in trade visitors from last year.
Tourism South East had a stunning Beautiful South area of the show and a special reception updated the industry about plans in helping the region maximise the impact of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games launched exciting new training initiative Welcome Host Gold.

To celebrate British Tourism Week the team at Tourism South East recently got back to their roots and worked on the ground with tourism businesses across the region for a day to help raise the tourism profile in the South East.
Over 40 employees dedicated their time in jobs ranging from serving customers at Tourist Information Centres to lending a helping hand in the receptions and restaurants of hotels. Others assisted tour guides at attractions and some helped businesses gear up for the 2010 season.
The Directors of Tourism South East led the way with Chairman, John Williams and Chief Executive, Mike Bedingfield getting stuck in at the Port Lympne Wild Animal Park in Kent and Marwell Wildlife in Hampshire. Malcolm Lane, Corporate Services Director, assisted at the East Sussex National Golf Resort & Spa and Commercial Services Director, Nigel Smith polished up his skills in car cleaning at Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey. Development Director, Peter Colling donned his gardening gloves for the day at Waterperry Gardens and amateur dramatics enthusiast and Partnership Director, Simon Matthews went back in time to take on a new role at Dickens World in Kent.

A record number of tourism businesses in South East England have been announced as finalists in the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence.
The Awards, organised by national tourism body VisitEngland, celebrate some of the very best tourism businesses in the UK. Seven businesses have been shortlisted in South East England with no other region achieving more finalists, making it the best year ever for the Beautiful South.
The Gold winners will be announced on St George's Day at the glittering Awards ceremony to be held here in the Beautiful South in the Corn Exchange at Brighton Dome on 23 April.

The tourism industry scored a century in January as over 100 delegates attended a major Surrey tourism conference organised by Tourism South East at leading tourism attraction Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge.
Shadow Tourism Minister Tobias Ellwood MP opened the event as part of a wider tour of the South East. His keynote address recognised both the importance of the industry to the region and the significance of partnerships to tourism success. In addition, he expressed his keenness to see the introduction of financial incentives for Local Authorities to encourage and support the development of the tourism industry.

Thursday 3 December 2009 marked 1000 days to go until the beginning of the 2012 Paralympic Games. The South East pledges to ensure it develops the capacity to give a world class welcome to disabled visitors and Paralympic teams. Key to setting the region on that important journey over the next 1000 days is the London 2012 Legacy Project Accentuate, which was launched at the Brighton Dome on the same day - 3 December.
A new online resource will assist forward-looking businesses in adapting to the effects of climate change. It provides an informative platform for businesses to more effectively engage in the sustainable tourism agenda. www.climateprepared.com, which has been developed in partnership by Climate South East, South West Climate Change Impacts Partnership, Tourism South East and South West Tourism, is structured around the impacts of severe weather. Each section tells how businesses might be affected, suggests practical actions to reduce the risk or take advantage of the opportunities, and provides guidance to further information and support.

The final results of the South East Tourism ExSEllence Awards were announced on Thursday 22 October 2009 at the fastest ever sell out Gala Dinner at the Wentworth Club, Surrey. This year's Awards received the highest number of entries ever and the Ceremony was hosted by former Tourism Minister and popular television personality, Gyles Brandreth.
The past year was one of great change and development for Tourism South East. In the early period, independent consultants appointed by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) gave an excellent assessment of our overall performance.
