Ensuring Tourism is a winner

London 2012Tourism South East have identified three distinct phases of activity related to this work, which break down into thinking, planning and action.

Thinking time - now -Time taken to research the opportunities, decide on priorities and focus our investment. The time taken now to prepare the ground is essential to future success.

Planning time -next year - Planning time to develop the agreed Action Plans, with adequate resources for implementation, well-planned timetables, robust monitoring and evaluation procedures, regular progress reporting and clear responsibilities.

Action time - thereafter - As soon as the flame is extinguished at the closing ceremony at Beijing we start the London Olympiad.

Aim - To achieve uplift in tourism and culture income of £1billion for 9 year period of the Games (4 years before 2012 and 4 years after)

  • Use a 'winning' theme to attract conferences, conventions and exhibitions to the SE over the longer 8 year period
  • Attracting training camps and teams to the SE to areas which have specialist sporting facilities and good quality accommodation
  • Use the web to drive bookings to the SE cost-effectively generate extra occupancy for SE accommodation with overflow from London, and marketing the quality and value of staying in the SE and travelling to London for the days when guests visit the games
