Seachange

Seachange is a new funding programme aimed at regenerating coastal areas.

The programme will run for three years and will invest £15 million each year in to cultural and heritage based projects. It is being led by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE).

The programme will provide funds “to invest in art, public space, cultural assets and heritage projects which will drive cultural and creative regeneration and economic growth in seaside resorts”.

The five key priorities will be to:

  • Act as a catalyst
  • Support regeneration plans
  • Boost confidence and pride
  • Share learning
  • Maximise the benefit by attracting other funding

It has been announced that Dover, Torbay and Blackpool will be the first Local Authorities to receive grant funding from the Seachange initiative. There is still time for local authorities to apply for funding this year. Final applications for large grants must be received by 2nd June whilst the other ‘Open Applications’ must be received by 30th June.

The next wave of applications must be received by September and December of 2008.
