Changes to Vetting and Barring Scheme

Following a great deal of controversy and national press coverage the Government has announced that it is diluting the requirements of the Vetting and Barring Scheme.

Tourism businesses were concerned that the scheme would be overly bureaucratic.

The changes mean, amongst other implications, that employees and volunteers who only come in to contact with children on a monthly basis will not be required to undertake the checks. Only those who are likely to come in to contact with children on a weekly basis will be required to undergo the checks.

It is estimated that this means that this will lower the number of people having to undertake the checks from 11 million to 9 million.
