Vetting and Barring Scheme Postponed
Following a great deal of controversy, national press coverage and a previous dilution of the proposed rules by the last Government the new Home Secretary, the Rt. Hon. Theresa May MP, has announced that the implementation of the Vetting and Barring Scheme is being postponed pending a review of the whole scheme.
Tourism businesses were concerned that the scheme would be overly bureaucratic.
If implemented, the propsed changes could mean, amongst other implications, that employees and volunteers who only come in to contact with children on a weekly basis could be required to undertake the necessary checks.
It is estimated that this means that the number of people having to undertake the checks would be 9 million employees and volunteers across the country.
