Water Way to do it
Water is a wonderful source of relaxation which is simply too good to ignore. In the South East there are numerous beaches and riverbanks which are perfect for families. Or for the more adventurous, you could choose from the many seaside, rivers and lakes, offering watersports and sailing activities.
A visit to the South East, must include a trip to one of our many inland waterways such as The River Thames which flows through some of the most beautiful countryside in England from its source in the Cotswolds through pretty villages and historic towns such as Oxford and Windsor.
If you are looking for a place that is full of maritime promise and mystery, 1066 country is the place to go, famous for its historic countryside, which is skirted by a spectacular coastal stretch.
If you need a place to stay, The Grand is situated on the seafront of Eastbourne. Awarded as one of England's finest resort hotel (AA/RAC/ETC 5* Gold) it is a haven for visitors to the many attractions in the South East.
Medway is recognised as one of Britain's most important waters for leisure activities with a fascinating heritage, that stretches back over 2000 years from its beginnings as a river crossing for the Romans.
As well as attractions, the South East has a lot of events to offer as 2005 is an important year, celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar through SeaBritain, a yearlong festival bringing to life Britain's relationship with the sea and Admiral Lord Nelson. This gives us the chance to bring our sea history to life through a number of flagship events.
Hampshire is a hot spot for SeaBritain 2005 and there is no better place to immerse yourself with the many activities taking place here.
Portsmouth is one of the UK's premier waterfront destinations with miles of seafront and centuries of history. Home to the Historic Dockyard, which welcomes visitors to Admiral Lord Nelson's famous HMS Victory and HMS Warrior.
The new Waterside brochure (available now) produced by Tourism South East brings all this together and much more to give you ideas for places to go and things to do.
