Sustainable Tourism...

Save Money; Go Green

Tourism South East is committed to encouraging the development of sustainable tourism in the region.  A key driver for this is climate change, underpinned by rising oil prices and rising utility bills adversely affecting businesses.  The current serious economic downturn gives added weight to the business imperative to seek resource efficient and cost effective solutions – those that are operating with a focus on sustainable practice are more likely to take advantage of any upturn more quickly.

Carbon Trust Funding

The Carbon Trust has simplified the application process for businesses to apply for loans to improve their sustainability.

Why should I consider making my business more sustainable?

Going green is a better way to operate as a tourism business for the following reasons:

  • increased efficiency – with utility prices high, becoming more efficient will help improve your bottom line
  • reduced waste – and thereby save costs on both purchasing and disposal
  • market edge via added appeal – customers increasingly respond positively to businesses that demonstrate they are operating in a responsible way
  • quality via added value – you can often add to the quality being offered by the actions taken to become a greener business e.g. using local products and promoting local distinctiveness
  • greater resilience – by taking action you will be better prepared for higher costs and tighter legislation predicted for the future, as well as the impacts of climate change

Podcast on Sustainability

TSE has been awarded a ‘Hosting the World’ contract.  This focuses on world class customer care and improving skills in the South East to leave a legacy of higher productivity and more sustainable communities and business practices, to coincide with the Olympics and beyond.

As part of this, we have made a ‘sustainability podcast’ to focus on the importance of sustainable good practice from a national and regional perspective, and focused on a particular beacon business in the region (Nash Manor in West Sussex).
